At a Glance
The course is for qualified counsellors and psychotherapists who want to work with clients online or by telephone, and for trainees who are currently seeing clients as part of their qualification and want to prepare for remote practice.
Who joins this course
A wide range of practitioners take the course. Members typically include:
- Qualified counsellors wanting to add online or telephone work to their existing practice
- Practitioners already working online who want a recognised qualification in this area
- Trainees on diploma-level courses currently seeing clients, preparing for placement work that often includes remote sessions
- Counsellors moving from face-to-face into online work — often after a change in practice setting, geography, or client demand
- Established online practitioners who developed their online skills informally during the pandemic and want formal training to underpin their practice
Eligibility in detail
To enrol you should:

- Be a member of a professional body and work within an ethical framework
- Engage in regular supervision in line with your professional body's requirements
- Have a computer with reliable internet — for accessing course materials and (for the buddy work) connecting with whoever you choose to practise with
- Be ready to commit approximately 80 hours of flexible online learning, including the buddy work component
A note on existing online practitioners
If you have been working online for a while — perhaps starting during the pandemic, or in response to changing client demand — the course is still valuable. Many of our members fall into this category. Often you'll find the course articulates and formalises practices you've developed instinctively, while filling specific gaps you didn't realise were there.
