What's the time commitment for the supervision course?

At a Glance

The course totals 180 CPD hours across 9–12 months from enrolment to certification. Live sessions run fortnightly across the first three months, with assignments and placement hours completed afterwards.

How the hours break down

Component Hours Detail
Live tutor-led sessions 40 hours 6 full days (10am–4pm), every two weeks
Self-directed learning 120 hours ~8–9 hours per week via the learning portal
Supervised placement 20 hours Individual supervision practice with real counsellors
Total 180 hours

Per week during the live phase

Across the three-month live phase, you'll typically need:

  • 1–2 hours of buddy practice work with another student
  • 4–6 hours of video lectures, reading, and research

— in addition to the fortnightly full-day live session.

Total timeline

  • Live learning phase: approximately 3 months (6 fortnightly live sessions)
  • Assignment deadline: 90 days after the final live session
  • Placement hours deadline: 12 months after the final live session

Fitting it around your existing practice

This is a real time commitment, and we won't pretend otherwise. Many of our students are working full or part-time as counsellors while completing the course. They tell us it is manageable but does require commitment:

"I have a very busy lifestyle but it takes regular commitment."

"I work full time and it is still manageable."

"Really important to put aside time for study and peer groups outside of the training so it doesn't become overwhelming."

What helps

  • Self-directed learning that fits around your client diary
  • Fortnightly rhythm — week on, week off — that builds in recovery time
  • Online delivery — no travel, no accommodation, no time wasted
  • Cohort-swapping if life gets in the way and you miss a live session (more on this in the FAQ)
