What level is the qualification?

The course is taught and assessed at the equivalent of Level 6 (or Level 10 in Scotland), benchmarked against the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications. We use the phrase "taught and assessed at the equivalent of" deliberately, rather than claiming regulated Level 6 status — and the explanation matters.

Why we phrase it carefully

Formal levels in UK education are assigned by Ofqual. Ofqual does not cover supervision CPD qualifications — and never has. There is no Ofqual-regulated Level 6 supervision course in the UK.

This is true across the sector. Even courses you might know as "Level 6 supervision" — including some from well-known awarding bodies — are benchmarked against Level 6 descriptors rather than formally regulated at Level 6.

What "equivalent of Level 6" means in practice

Level 6 descriptors in the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications describe:

• Advanced knowledge of a subject

• The ability to evaluate critically and apply theory in real practice

• Independent learning and reflective practice

• Communication of complex ideas to specialist and non-specialist audiences

The course is built around these descriptors. You'll be required to understand and apply sophisticated supervision theories both theoretically and in practice. Assessments are pitched at this level.

In Scotland

Scotland's Framework for Qualifications of Higher Education Institutions runs slightly differently. Under that framework, the course aligns with Level 10.

Why this matters for transparency

Some providers overclaim — and some students enrol expecting a regulated Level 6 qualification only to discover after the fact that no such regulation exists for supervision CPD. We would rather explain this clearly upfront. The course is rigorous, robust, benchmarked against Level 6, and recognised as such by professional bodies. It just isn't regulated by Ofqual at Level 6, because nothing in supervision CPD is.
