What happens if I miss a live session?

If life gets in the way and you miss a live session, you can attend the same session live with a different cohort — because a new cohort starts every month. This is called cohort-swapping and it makes catching up straightforward without waiting months.

The attendance policy

You need to attend at least 80% of the six live sessions — that is, at least 5 of 6 — to complete the course. This is in line with the BACP supervision training curriculum.

What happens if you miss one session

Missing 1 session: you watch the recording and confirm to the team

Missing 2 sessions: you must attend at least one of those sessions live with a different cohort, and you can watch the other as a recording

Partial absences are noted and count toward total attendance

If you know in advance that you will miss a session, let the team know and they can help arrange alternative cohort attendance.

Why monthly intakes matter

A new cohort starts every month — so when you need to swap into a session, the next opportunity is rarely more than a few weeks away. You don't have to wait for the next academic year. You don't have to fall behind. You don't have to pause your enrolment.

This flexibility is built into the structure, not offered as an exception.

If you can't meet attendance requirements

If life genuinely makes it impossible for you to meet the 80% attendance requirement during your enrolled cohort, you can pause and restart with a future cohort. This isn't punitive — life happens. Speak to the team and they will help you find a way through.

Special circumstances

The course has a special circumstances policy covering illness, bereavement, family crisis, caring responsibilities, and other life events. This includes flexibility on assignment deadlines and attendance. Email support@counsellingtutor.com if you need to discuss your situation.
