At a Glance
If life gets in the way and you miss a live session, you catch up by watching the recording of that session, then confirming to the team that you have done so. This keeps you with your own cohort and keeps the sessions in their intended order.
The attendance policy
You need to attend at least 80% of the six live sessions — that is, at least 5 of 6 live — to complete the course. This is in line with the BACP supervision training curriculum. Any session you miss live is caught up by watching the recording.
How catching up works
- Missing 1 session: watch the recording of that session and confirm to the team that you have completed it.
- Missing more than one: you still need to attend at least 5 of the 6 sessions live to complete the course. Watch the recording of any missed session to stay current with the content, and speak to the Academic Admin Team about your options.
- Partial absences are noted and count toward your total attendance.
If you know in advance that you will miss a session, contact the Academic Admin Team as early as you can so they can talk through the best way forward for you.
Please note: we no longer arrange for students to attend a missed session live with a different cohort. While a new cohort does start each month, attending a later cohort's session to "make up" a missed one means taking the sessions out of order — for example, attending Sessions 4 and 5 with your own cohort before catching the missed Session 3 with a later cohort. That disrupts the flow of the learning and your experience of being part of a group, so missed sessions are caught up by recording instead.
If you can't meet the attendance requirement
If life genuinely makes it impossible to attend at least 5 of the 6 sessions live during your enrolled cohort, you can pause and restart with a future cohort and take the six sessions in order from the beginning. This isn't punitive — life happens. Speak to the team and they will help you find a way through.
Special circumstances
The course has a special circumstances policy covering illness, bereavement, family crisis, caring responsibilities, and other life events. This includes flexibility on assignment deadlines and attendance. Email academic@counsellingtutor.com if you need to discuss your situation.
