At a Glance
There are three assessed components: two written assignments, 20 hours of supervised placement, and ongoing tutor-observed practice during live sessions. Pass all three and you receive a downloadable certificate, a digital Certified Supervisor badge, and lifetime access to the learning materials.
The two assignments
Assignment 1 — Written Essay
A 2,500-word essay, due within 90 days of the final live session.
Assignment 2 — Transcription with Process Notes
A transcription of a recorded supervision session, with accompanying process notes.
Both assignments are graded as pass or referral. If you are referred, you receive specific, detailed feedback on what needs to be addressed and can resubmit free of charge.
Assignment support
Assignments are the part of the course students most often struggle with — and the support is built specifically to address that:
- An in-depth assignment briefing in week 6, covering word counts, transcription, referencing, and how the work will be graded
- A dedicated assignment workshop session — non-compulsory, at no extra cost — where you bring questions and draft work for direct tutor guidance. This was added in direct response to feedback and dramatically improved pass rates.
- Ongoing tutor support through the assignment process
- Free resubmission if your work is referred
Placement hours
You complete 20 hours of one-to-one supervision practice with real counsellors:
- Minimum of two supervisees — so you experience different supervisory relationships
- At least 5 of the 20 hours must be online — supporting the course's online focus
- Group supervision hours don't count — must be individual practice
- You cannot supervise peers from your own or a concurrent course cohort
- Due within 12 months of your final live session
Your own supervisor supervises your placement work — which is why a supporting letter from them is part of enrolment.
A Fitness-to-Practise letter
After session 5, students who have submitted their supervisor's reference letter and attended at least 5 of the 6 live sessions receive a Fitness-to-Practise letter. This lets you begin placement supervision and start promoting your new supervision service while you complete the rest of the course.
