Is there a community for the course?

At a Glance

There's an optional Facebook group linked to the course that you can join if you'd like. The course itself is fully self-paced — there are no live sessions and no formal cohort. The most important encouragement we'd give is to find a peer or colleague from your own network to practise with.

A fully self-paced course

This course is designed to fit around your existing life as a working counsellor. There are no live sessions to attend, no fixed cohort working through the material together. You progress at your own pace, on your own schedule.

That means the course doesn't have a structured "community" element in the way some cohort-led courses do. Instead, we encourage you to bring your own people in.

Finding a peer from your network

Practising the technical and practical elements of online and telephone counselling — setting up sessions, contracting, conducting them, reflecting — is much more effective with a peer than alone. Most members find someone from their existing network:

  • A counselling colleague you already know
  • Someone from your training cohort or peer group
  • A friend or fellow practitioner willing to help you practise
  • A colleague from supervision or a peer development group

You bring the person; the course gives you the framework for what to practise. It's deliberately flexible.

The optional Facebook group

There's a Facebook group connected to the course that some members find useful. It's a place to share experiences, ask questions, or sometimes connect with others who are also looking for practice partners. Joining is entirely optional — many members complete the course without using it.

If you don't use Facebook, or simply prefer to keep your professional development separate from social media, you won't miss anything essential. The course works in full whether or not you're in the group.

The wider Counselling Tutor ecosystem

If you're already a member of any Counselling Tutor community space — through other courses, the Counsellor CPD Library, the Student Library, or the wider Counselling Tutor Facebook group — those continue to be available to you. There is a sense of joining something, not just buying something.
