At a Glance

Two full courses are included with your Student Library membership — at no extra cost. Both are designed to fill gaps that most counselling courses don't cover in any depth.

Bonus Course 1 — The Academic Writing Course

Built by a counselling tutor who lectures masters students. This is not a generic academic writing course. It is built specifically for counselling and psychotherapy students — for the kinds of assignments your course actually sets.

Ten modules covering:

  • Understanding what an assignment is really asking
  • Making a schedule for your assignments and training
  • Structuring and planning your assignments
  • Reading and developing an argument
  • Self-reflection in counselling assignments
  • Referencing and citations
  • References and bibliographies
  • Writing academically (without losing your voice)
  • Editing and proofreading
  • Bonus materials — guidance for neurodivergent learners, including dyslexia

Why this matters

Most members of the Student Library are returning to formal study after years away. Academic expectations have changed enormously — Bloom's verbs, criteria-based marking, structured argumentation. You aren't just marked on what you know; you're marked on whether you hit the criteria in the way the assignment demands. Academic writing is one of the biggest barriers our members tell us about — and the course is built to dissolve it.

Bonus Course 2 — Introduction to Online and Telephone Counselling

A 12-module course distilled from Counselling Tutor's paid certificate course for qualified practitioners.

Why students need it: Most formal counselling courses don't cover online and telephone counselling in any real depth. But when you go into placement, agencies very often ask you to work online via video software, or on the phone. Without training, you arrive unprepared for what placement actually requires.

This course gives you what your placement may quietly assume you already know.

A note on credibility

Counselling Tutor is the largest provider of training in online and telephone counselling in the UK and many countries worldwide, having trained over 40,000 practitioners. After the COVID pandemic, CPCAB made the introduction available to all of their students so they could level up to best practice.

You're not getting a generic intro — you're getting a distillation of the course that has shaped how thousands of practitioners work online.
