A great deal of what we do costs nothing. The podcast, the YouTube channel, hundreds of articles and downloadable resources, and our live CPD lectures are all free, and the lectures carry a free CPD certificate. Our paid courses and memberships sit alongside all of that rather than in place of it.
The Counselling Tutor Podcast
Free, with no membership needed, and it has been running for more than ten years.
Episodes cover practice development, ethics, theory, and how the profession is changing. You can search the whole library by keyword to find episodes on a particular topic.
Worth knowing: listening to a podcast counts as CPD where the content is enhancing your practice, so this is not only free, it is usable in your CPD record.
The YouTube channel
Free, with no account needed, and it has been running since 2015.
There are over 270 videos explaining counselling theory, skills and practice in plain language: attachment theory, person-centred therapy, CBT, Maslow, Erikson and much more besides. They were made for students who want a clear explanation to help with assignments, and they are just as useful as a refresher later on.

Articles and downloadable resources
The website carries hundreds of articles and free downloads covering counselling theory, skills, placement, assignments, ethics and building a practice.
They are free to read and free to download.
That includes How to Survive Counselling Training: A Student's Guide, a free guide covering what UK counselling training actually expects of you and how to study effectively alongside it.
Free live CPD lectures
We run live CPD lectures through the year on Zoom, and you do not need to be a member to attend.
- They are free to join, and you register through the invitation email
- You get a free CPD certificate for attending, whether you watched live or caught the replay
- Can't make it live? Ask for the replay and you can still claim the certificate

If you are an NCPS member
There is more. As an organisational member of the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society, we offer a selection of CPD lectures free to NCPS members on top of everything above.
What is not free
Our courses and our two libraries, the Student Library and the Counsellor CPD Library, are paid. They are where the structured, assessed and certificated learning lives.
If you are weighing one of them up, the free material above is a fair way to get a feel for how we teach before you spend anything.
